OK so maybe he is not so little but he is mine. This is Darrick and he is 17 y/o. Darrick has killed many animals in his hunting career but these two pictures are his favorite ones. The deer he killed on his grandpa Brown's place and it was real big so we had it mounted and it now hangs in his room . The next picture is a special one. Darrick wrote an essay for the Oklahoma Essay Contest put on by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. The topic being Sharing the Heritage of hunting. When Darrick told me that he was going to write this essay i told him that he would not win. I said this because he is not good at writing but i found out that when it is a subject that he likes he does well with it. With that being said Darrick won the contest with the best essay in the state of Oklahoma that entered it. Darrick's prize was a trip to New Mexico all expenses paid on an Antelope hunt. From the time he found out about winning and the dates to go on the Hunt Darrick was injured at a baseball game and lost the vision in his left eye. Darrick was sent to OKC to the Dean McGee eye institute to see if they could save his eye and if he could even go on this hunt that was in two days. To make a long story short Darrick seen the doctor and was told he would have to have surgery to save his eye. They let Darrick go on his hunt the next day and the day after we came home he would undergo surgery to save the eye. He went on the hunt killed this trophy buck due to the shape of its horns and his size with the use of one good eye and one very painful eye. When we got back Darrick had surgery they saved his eye, but could not save the vision. Needless to say it was a very stressful month but the outcome was good and Darrick had a ball and turned out fine, he adjusted well to the use of one eye and today you can not tell that it ever happened if you did not know him. This August it was 1 year ago.

I can't believe it has REALLY been over a year. But then again, with all of Darrick's adventures (and misadventures) its really hard to keep track of time.
This is what blogs are made of.
